The onset of the Covid-19 crisis has resulted in unprecedented changes to every industry landscape and redefined what business as usual has meant to innumerable organizations across the globe. In the risk and compliance space, a sudden and dramatic increase in remote working activity was almost immediately matched by steep rises in a plethora of cybercrimes and fraud as criminals wasted no time in exploiting new opportunities. In addition, global supply chains experienced equally severe disruptions, and many firms were left scrambling to onboard new suppliers at short notice and against a backdrop of rising third-party risk. Consisting of deploying controls where they are most needed rather than every security tool running in a silo, a cybersecurity mesh enables tools to interoperate by providing foundational security services and centralized policy management and orchestration. It is imperative that security leaders revisit policies for data protection, disaster recovery, and backup to make sure they still work in a remote environment. For instance, endpoint protection services will need to move to cloud-delivered services. As the world returns to normalcy, some drastic changes brought forth by the crisis are here to stay.
